That IS Encouraging

June 9, 2011

Earlier today I made the astute observation that the Milwaukee series was an unconventional one.  Tonight’s game did not deviate from that theme.

Consider the following factors:

  • Brewers pitcher, Yovani Gallardo had won his last six starts
  • Jose Reyes went 0-5
  • Jason Bay’s slump is so bad that he was benched in favor of fellow Jason, Jason Pridie, who was hitting .242 going into tonight
  • For the most part, the Mets pitched to Prince Fielder
  • The Mets were coming off blowing a four run lead in the eighth inning of the previous game.

So naturally the following ocurrs:

  • Jon Niese goes deeeep into the  contest and out pitches Gallardo
  • Jason Pridie factors in two of the Mets four runs
  • Frankie Rodriguez converts a four out save without giving up a run

Say what you want to about Terry Collins as a game manager.  But as of June 9, 2011 the severely hobbled New York Mets are only two games under .500 and are only 4.5 games back in the Wild Card race (as of 11:28pm).

That tells me that he has done a phenomenal job at preparing this team to play every night.  I give the man some credit.

What’s Next?

May 13, 2011

I’m not going to lie.  I was dangerously close to turning tonight’s game off before the biggest comeback of the season took place.  It seemed as if the Mets offense was going to have one of those games in which  they turn a decent pitcher into Cy Young.

Instead of turning the game off I got to see some things that many would not believe could happen all season, let alone in one game.

  1. Jason Bay hit a home run.  It was an absolute moon shot too.
  2. Fernando Martinez added a two run pinch hit home run.
  3. David Wright came through in the eighth inning with a two run blast that drove in the tying and go ahead runs.
  4. The Mets added an insurance run in the ninth inning in the form of an RBI double by Jason Pridie.
  5. Francisco Rodriguez sealed the victory with his eleventh straight save.

Absolutely unbelievable that these five things could happen in one game.

I’m sure plenty of others are going to use the Friday the 13th angle.  Not me.  I think the notion of Friday the 13th is a bunch of shit quite frankly.

Wow.  I feel good now that I got that off my chest.

Combining tonight’s come from behind surprise with Carlos Beltran’s three home run game last night leads me to ask a simple question:

What’s next?

Could it be the Mets first no-hitter in franchise history tomorrow?

Who Needs Stars When You Have Pridie, Gee, & Turner?

May 7, 2011

A very enjoyable win tonight.  It is always fun to watch the young bucks (Dillon Gee, Jason Pridie, and Justin Turner) pull one out for the Amazin’s.

Combine the young bucks’ contributions with a stellar effort from the bullpen and you have a pretty nice Saturday night.

You have to think that Justin Turner’s go ahead 400 ft single in the eighth will earn him a start tomorrow against the lefty, Clayton Kershaw.

Dillon Gee Won’t Go Away

Hats off to Mr. Gee tonight.  That is quite the predicament to be thrown into.  Imagine prepping mentally for a relief appearance and then being told you are starting minutes before game time.  Solid.

I know I have mentioned this before, but I really feel comfortable with Gee as a starter.  Don’t ask me who he should replace because I don’t have an answer.  Maybe I won’t have to come up with one based on what we find about Chris Young.

By the way, the sound you hear is Tom sobbing in the background as he comes to terms with the roller coaster ride that is Chris Young’s health.

The Jason’s Continue To Kick Ass

  • Jason Pridie goes 3 for 3 (should have gone 4 for 4 as he clearly would have beat out that throw from Kuo in the 8th.)
  • Jason Bay scored the go ahead run
  • I penned this amazing Non-Recap.  I hate to toot my own horn, but I am on fire ladies and gentleman.  The lightning speed in which I put forth this vast Mets knowledge has to be mind-boggling to you.   I digress.

With All Due Respect, The Washington Nationals Are Bastards

Unfortunately, the Mets still find themselves in the cellar as the Nationals just won’t relinquish their strangle hold on fourth place.  They beat the Marlins for the second consecutive game tonight.

People Named Jason Kick Ass

May 6, 2011

Yet Another Jason Kicking Ass

Fact:

People named Jason kick ass.

Proof:

  1. Jason Pridie’s three run bomb that was the difference in tonight’s ball  game.
  2. The Mets record when Jason Bay is in the lineup (9-3).
  3. Jason Isringhausen pitching another solid inning of relief tonight at the age of 87.
  4. Me.
  5. Last but not least, I am almost 100% certain that Carlos is spanish for Jason.

Seriously though folks, I will be very curious to see what the Mets do when Angel Pagan is healthy.  I am starting to enjoy watching Jason Pridie play.

Obviously, he is not a world beater but he is playing reasonably well  right now, which is more than I can say for Willie Harris and Scott Hairston.  Watching Harris or Hairston play is not something that is high on my list of things I enjoy doing.

We’ll see what happens.  All of this blather is premature, as none of this needs to be decided until Angel Pagan gets healthy anyway.

I’ll just sit back and enjoy the current winning streak while I can.
